David Feng, male, ethnic Han Chinese, Swiss citizen, born in January 1982 in Beijing, China. PhD candidate in communications at the Communication University of China. Married. Used to be known by his Hanyu Pinyin name (“Yan” Feng) through to 30 September 2006.
I was born in January 1982, and was born “just” an Aquarius since this was late in the month. At the very beginning, interesting things happened: I apparently was more than ready to read, for according to family recounts, the family “caught” me reading a local paper when I was just a few years old. (Oddly enough, I myself can’t recall that, but I did remember I had something bigger than a standard-sized A2 in front of me when I was small!)
The family helped me to 2,000 Chinese characters before I left for Switzerland in late 1988. Once there, I embarked on one truly multilingual, multicultural ride. After a few weeks at a local public school (in German), my languages were given wings — at the new international school near Zürich. Thanks to schooling at international schools, I’ve expansive knowledge of up to 10 languages along with comprehensive education in Switzerland. I was educated at the Inter-Community School and the former Riverside School. Following 11 IGCSE credits and 4 AP credits, I returned to my place of birth, Beijing, in 2000, and graduated from the University of International Business and Economics with a Bachelor of Economics and a scholarship recognizing active participation in extracurricular activities in 2004. After this, I graduated from the Communication University of China with a Master of Arts in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from the School of Media Presenting in 2007. In August 2007, I became a certified TEFL teacher. Right now, I’m completing PhD studies at the same university; I’m majoring here in communications and especially social media in China, which is, in fact, my dissertation research topic.
In 2002, I started with several Mac friends around the world the Beijing Macintosh User Group. Due to my active involvement in the Macintosh community, I was profiled on a variety of international tech-related and general media, including eBay Trend Charts (China), MacAddict, and others.
Beginning in September 2002, I became a frequent speaker and host, first in universities, and then moving out of the campus with internships at Radio Beijing and media from both inside and outside Mainland China.
My media involvements has its roots in 2002, when I founded a worldwide Mac news site, which was then called Global Mac News. Through to this day, I’ve written 3,000 Chinese tech articles.
Beginning 3 January 2008, I started my trek in radio, appearing first as a regular guest in Radio Beijing (774 AM), later becoming the What A World segment of Travel Bar, one of the most popular programs at that time, on Radio Beijing. I followed this with a two-year radio programme regarding automobiles. Since April 2010, I’ve been the regular guest of a Chinese-language show about train travel, especially China train travel.
On January 23, 2008, I joined CN Reviews, a group blog with Elliott Ng and others. In early April 2008, I started working with the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall, and I was recognized for my efforts (updating city info and composing the museum’s first-ever German and French training guidebooks) with an “Olympic Service Pioneer” nomination. In that time, I’ve hosted high-level foreign visitors and dignatories from around 60 countries in the museum.
As early as August 2006, I also started an experimental wiki on the city of Beijing, which became the Beijingology project in May 2007. This has led me to a close partnership with City Weekend, where I produced The Beijingologist, a blog on City Weekend’s website.
In April 2011, I came out with my first book — a Chinese language book called Jiong Chinglish (囧图就在你身边: 雷人 Chinglish), which tackles the Chinglish problem head-on with easy-to-understand explanations about why the Chinglish is there and, more importantly, how it should be written the right way.
I’ve travelled extensively to 19 countries, regions and territories. I’ve lived in Zürich, Switzerland, and now am in Beijing with my wife Tracy. My interests include technology, music, socializing, hiking, swimming, billards/snooker, travels, bowling, biking, astronomy, history, geography and the Law.

馮琰，男，漢族，現瑞士籍，1982 年 1 月生於北京，陝西渭南人。傳播學方面的博士候選人。已婚。曾用名 (1982 年至 2006 年 9 月 30 日): 馮岩。英文名稱: David Feng。
我是 1982 年 1 月出生的。由於 ’82 年出生的大部份人都是「屬狗」的，所以先聲明一下：我在年前出生，屬於「雞尾巴」!
家人說，當初，我在幾歲就能讀《北京日報》了。當時我實在太小了，作為當事人，我只能對此表示「不名真相」，不過我確定的是，在姥爺和當時姥姥的共同努力下，在我六歲出國前，認識兩千個漢字這個目標終於搞定了。
六歲快到七歲時，家裡搬到瑞士去了，從此我開始了多國語言國際旅途了。到了瑞士，我先上了幾週當地德語公立學校，之後就換到「國際社會交流學校」(The Inter-Community School) 了。這個學校讓我不僅迅速進入一個國際化的社會，也教會我多國語言。高中方面，則是在原「河畔學校」(the former Riverside School) 完成的。在完成十一項英國國際考試 (IGCSE) 及四項美國國際考試 (AP) 後，我回到了出生地北京，並從 2000 年至 2004 在對外經濟貿易大學攻讀國際金融本科生。在 2004 年，我得到了經濟學學士學位以及因經常參加社會活動的奬學金。在 2007 年，我結束了在中國傳媒大學的研究生學習，並獲得文學碩士學位。在 2007 年 8 月，我成為了經認證的 TEFL 對外英語教師。2009 年 9 月，我回到了中國傳媒大學，攻讀傳播學博士學位。
我於 2002 年與世界多名蘋果電腦用戶共同興建北京麥金塔用戶會。由於經常麥金塔社群，我得到了相關媒體的關註。我曾在世界各種科技媒體出現，包括《Wired》、易趣時尚排行榜、《MacAddict》等。
我由 2002 年 9 月起經常做演講並做活動主持，現由大學校園開始，逐步再以在北京人民廣播電台外語廣播以及非大陸媒體平台。
我的媒體參與曾於 2002 年開始，當時我興建了《Global Mac News》。截止到今日，我就蘋果方面訊息已經發表超過 3,000 則新聞內容。
2008 年 1 月 3 日起，我為北京人民廣播電台外語廣播的有關旅游方面雙語節目常態嘉賓，節目為直播形式。此後，所參加的電台節目，均有直播式、錄播式，且成為中國國際廣播電台新聞資訊頻道、北京人民廣播電台外語廣播、文藝廣播等，內容涉及國內外鐵路旅遊、境外專題旅遊、汽車等。從 2010 年 4 月起，你可以經常在北京文藝廣播 (FM 87.6) 收聽我基本上每週都更新的鐵路旅行節目。
從 2008 年 1 月 23 日起，我加入了 CNReviews 團體部落格。由 2008 年 4 月初起，我加入了北京市規劃展覽館並在該館參與工作。因在該館工作刻苦，更新交通展相關資訊，重新編寫英文講解辭，且率先編寫德文、法文講解，且接待過來自六十餘國政治、學術、商業界較多高層團體訪客，所以我在離開工作崗位前被該館及北京市相關部門授予「奧運服務好先鋒」稱謂。
早在 2006 年 8 月，我就興建了一個有關北京的實驗式百科全書，於 2007 年 5 月構建為北京學百科全書。北京學過去和《City Weekend》密切協作，負責在其站點的「The Beijingologist」部落格，內容每天更新，題目以北京新聞為首。
2011 年 4 月，我和中國北京的電子工業出版社出版了屬於自己的第一本書 —《囧圖就在你身邊: 雷人 Chinglish》。這本書以輕鬆方式向大家介紹「Chinglish」(中式英文) 這個語言「怪物」，並告訴大家今後英文應該怎麼寫的對，寫的好。該書從我超過 2,000 多張 Chinglish 圖片中，選定了 275 張最有意思的圖片。
我已去過世界中 19 個國家和地區，並曾居住在瑞士蘇黎世，現同妻子居住在中國北京。我的興趣包括電腦、音樂、社交、散步及登山、游泳、台球、旅游、保齡球、騎自行車、天文、歷史、地理及法律。
