The title doesn’t look like anything but Chinglish, right? I know…
This book, written in Chinese readers for China, is my debut work. It had a cause to be after I started snapping so many Chinglish pics that my iPhone 4 ran out of storage space (I kid you not)! Next thing you know, iPhoto started tallying up a grand total of… over 2,000 Chinglish pics as of summer 2011.
When you start seeing signs to the tune of ACCIDENT MUCH ROAD, UP AND DOWN PLACES TEMPORARILY and LOVE ROAD IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERYONE popping up all over the place, and when you are mistaken for a railway vehicle (as in PLEASE WAIT YOU TRAIN OUTSIDE THE SAFETY LINE) as you stand next to the INFECTIOUS DISEASE BUILDING, you know that this Chinglish story is one that is dying to be told.
The Publishing House of Electronics Industry based in Beijing, China, was sold on this. They churned out this small, cheap (that’s how you win ‘em over!) booklet that was full of language near and dear to kids in their early 20s — if only to tell them how not to do Chinglish. Through this book, you’ll learn why a parking lot for cars (where the car park is to be used during holidays only) is not AUTOMOBILE PARKING ON HOLIDAY (can a whole parking lot “go” on holiday?), and you’ll understand the logic (or lack of logic, rather) behind such linguistic delicacies such as UNLICENSED VEHICLE ON THE ROAD WILL NOT BREAK THE LAW (say, it’s time I shredded my vehicle license!).

Just some of the Chinglish you’ll find in the book…

At the present moment, my Chinglish book is only available to readers in Mainland China, who may order the book from Joyo Amazon (as in Amazon.cn). People living on Mainland China, including expats, are free to order the book online.
