Media

“SOMEONE WANT TO DO AN INTERVIEW WITH YOU WHEN WILL BE AVAILABLE”.

I think I can easily split my life between all the time before I got that SMS from a founding member of the Beijing Mac group — and after that time. Despite the absence of a word in the English language in that message, that SMS was it. It didn’t land me into a headliner on the IHT or so, but it paved my way to making appearances on the BBC, CNN, IDG, Mac magazines and websites, China Central Television, and a whole host of world media.

Since that early 2002 text message, I’ve been interviewed by media the world over about a whole host of things. Things like how Apple is doing in China; why the Apple Store in Sanlitun, Beijing, was such a big deal. Things more IT-related, like why the “Green Dam” project aimed at cleansing content in excess of what the label claims it does, is not a good idea (independent reviewers later concluded that the content control software in question had major security flaws). Things like how the city of Beijing worked — especially in the lead-up to the Olympics. Things like talking to an elite group in Shanghai about why high speed rail in China is a bigger deal than you might think. Things like talking about China’s latest and greatest HSR link — the Beijing-Shanghai HSR — to media both from home and around the world.

“SOMEONE WANT TO DO AN INTERVIEW WITH YOU WHEN WILL BE AVAILABLE”.
